Mr. Jerry Gomez is being recognized for his professional achievement in the superior performance of his duties while serving as a volunteer for the Newton Division Police Activities League (PAL) from November 1, 2011 to November 1, 2012.   Mr. Gomez performs his duties in an exemplary and highly professional manner.  He is tasked with assisting law enforcement officers with youth crime prevention, which concentrates on the development of the inner city youth within the city of Los Angeles.

Although, Mr. Gomez is a volunteer, he commits 30-40 hours a week of his own time to promote trust and understanding between young people and police officers by bringing the youths under the supervision and constructive influence of dedicated law enforcement professionals.

Mr. Gomez himself utilized youth programs as a teenager and became a "Newton Division Explorer" while obtaining the rank of lieutenant.  With the values and morals taught to Mr. Gomez while being a member of the Newton Division Explorer, he saw the importance of youth programs and how they have impacted his community in a positive way.

Mr. Gomez continuously displays superb leadership, expertise, and unselfishness within the

PAL program.  Along with his maturity, and "Can Do" attitude, he enhances the overall mission and is instrumental in the success of the Newton PAL’s Operations.  Mr. Gomez’ high work ethic, dedication to the community, initiative and total devotion to duty reflects great credit upon him and is in keeping with the highest traditions of the Los Angeles Police Department.

Mr. Gomez is currently active in the PAL: Tuesdays through Saturdays. He is either mentoring in a class or chaperoning the youth on field trips.  In this capacity, he continues in his exemplary support and guidance to the youth of Newton.  We understand that quality volunteers who are committed to the goal of the Department are difficult to recruit from within the community.  Mr. Gomez has never asked anything from the Department expect to have the opportunity to give back to his community.  We feel it is appropriate that Mr. Gomez is recognized for doing such an amazing job!
