Peace Officers Association of Los Angeles County 2013 Centurion Awards For Excellence
The Newton Gang Impact Team was awarded the prestigious Peace Officers Association of Los Angeles County 2013 Centurion Awards for Excellence. The Newton Gang Impact Team (GIT) leads the City of Los Angeles in the area of productivity over the last three years by affecting a combined 2,743 arrests, confiscating 105 firearms, conducted 637 parole/probation compliance checks and serving 82 search warrants. For example, in 2012 a shooting occurred that resulted in the homicide of a gang member. Newton Gang Detectives positively identified the suspect responsible for the shooting and it resulted in the Newton Gang Impact Team executing a search warrant in Newton Area. The investigation resulted in the arrest of two gang members (including the suspect identified in the homicide), the recovery of one UZI machine gun, one .44 caliber handgun, one .40 caliber handgun, three high capacity magazines, forty-two 9mm rounds, ninety-five 40 caliber rounds, and twenty-seven .45 caliber rounds.
