Drunk Driver Takes the Life of Pedestrian NR09254SFl
Los Angeles: On Sunday, May 24, 2009, at around 12:15 a.m., a fatal traffic collision occurred near the intersection of Vernon Avenue and Central Avenue, in Los Angeles.
Jose Luis Gonzalez Guzman, a 50-year-old resident of Los Angeles was driving his 2005 Honda Odyssey Van eastbound on Vernon Avenue when he collided with Pablo Hernandez who was walking midblock in a southbound direction across Vernon Avenue.
During the collision Mr. Hernandez was carried on the hood of the driver’s car for a short distance before he fell off. As a result of the collision, victim Hernandez suffered extensive injuries and died at the scene.
Officers assigned to Newton Division responded to the location where they saw the driver, Jose Luis Gonzalez Guzman showing signs of intoxication. The officers conducted a field sobriety test and arrested him for Vehicular Homicide.
