Captain Len J. Hundshamer was born in Syracuse New York and was raised in the San Gabriel Valley. He is a graduate of San Gabriel High School and attended Pasadena City College.
Captain Hundshamer is a 33-year career veteran of the Los Angeles Police Department. He first joined the Department in 1974 at the age of 21. As an officer, Captain Hundshamer worked a variety of assignments in various patrol divisions including Newton, West Valley, 77th, Southeast, Venice, and Newton as well as several staff assignments. He was promoted to Sergeant in 1985, and Sergeant II in 1988. He promoted to Lieutenant I in 1993, where he was assigned to North Hollywood Area, his current and most loved assignment.
He was one of 40 Olympic Planners for the Los Angeles Police Department, an organizer for the 1987 Papal visit, and a primary organizer for the 2000, Democratic National Convention.
Captain Hundshamer was promoted to Lieutenant II in 2001, and was charged with creating the systems of integrating Consent Decree mandates into the standard operating procedures of the Los Angeles Police Department.
Captain Hundshamer returned to North Hollywood Patrol Division on May 1, 2007, where he is privileged to be the Commanding Officer.
Hundshamer has been married to a wonderful woman for the past 30-years and has two adult daughters. His eldest daughter is an emergency room nurse, currently serving in Africa and his youngest daughter is a Senior Social Worker with the County of Orange – Children’s Services. Captain Hundshamer has a talent for music, score writing, and has attended the University of California Los Angeles, School of Music. In his spare time he enjoys running, traveling, and volunteer work.
