Captain Sharyn Buck is currently the Commanding Officer of North Hollywood Area, serving the communities of North Hollywood, Studio City, Valley Village, Toluca Lake, West Toluca Lake and a portion of Sun Valley. There are approximately 300 sworn officers, detectives and civilian staff assigned to the North Hollywood Police Station covering approximately 25 square miles and contains approximately 220,000 residents. Reducing crime and making the communities of North Hollywood Area the safest Division within the San Fernando Valley is one of her missions while assigned to North Hollywood Area. She enjoys working closely with the Community Police Advisory Board (CPAB), East Valley Police Advisory League Supporters and Community Groups in achieving these goals.
Her prior assignments have included the Commanding Officer of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Communications Division and the Commanding Officer of the Juvenile Division.
She began her career in March 1983 and has held many challenging assignments including, but not limited to, patrol, Assistant Advocate in Internal Affairs Group, Commander’s Aide, Watch Commander, and Officer-in-Charge of Media Relations Section.
Captain Buck earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Broadcast Journalism from California State University, Northridge and her Master’s degree in Negotiation, Conflict Management from California State University, Dominguez Hills.
Captain Buck is actively involved in many charitable organizations including the City of Hope. She has strong family support from her husband (retired LAPD), twin brother, older brother, and stepson who are currently Los Angeles Police Officers. In her spare time, she enjoys running, traveling, reading, and playing golf.
