Pregnant Woman Choked to Death

Los Angeles: A 21-year-old pregnant Westminister woman was choked to death by her boyfriend in North Hollywood.

The incident unfolded on October 10, 2007, at around 11:00 a.m., when police were dispatched to a woman identified as Alisha Johnson, lying the alley of the 8100 block of Vanscoy Avenue. When the police and paramedics arrived, the woman appeared unconscious and was not breathing.  She was pronounced dead at the scene.

During the investigation, detectives learned that the victim had recently told her friends and family members that she was four and half months pregnant by her boyfriend, Michael Labrunda, 33.

Investigators questioned Labrunda who subsequently was taken into police custody and booked on two counts of murder with no bail.

The couple had known each other for two years, police said.

Detectives are still developing leads on the investigation and haven't determined the motive that led to Johnson's death.

Anyone with information is asked to call North Hollywood Homicide Detectives Thomas Townsend or Timothy Kirkpatrick at 818- 623-4045 during normal business hours. After hours and on weekends, please phone the 24-hour Detective Information Desk at 1-877-LAW-FULL(529-3855).
