LAPD Gives Halloween Safety Tips

WHAT:
Elementary school children will parade in Halloween costumes and
law enforcement personnel will provide Halloween traffic safety tips.

WHEN:
Wednesday, October 31, 2007 at 7:45 A.M.

WHERE:
Colfax Elementary School
11724 Addison Street
North Hollywood, CA 91607

WHO:
Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa
Councilmember Wendy Greuel, 2nd Council District
Commander Jerry Szymanski, Operations-Valley Bureau
Captain Ronald Marbrey, Valley Traffic Division
Captain Sharyn Buck, North Hollywood Area
Chief Lawrence Manion, LAUSD Police Department
Tamar Galatzan, LAUSD Board Member, District 3

WHY:
Halloween is an exciting night of the year and a particularly special treat for young children. It is also an important time to be extra vigilant for potential safety hazards. The hours between 3:00 P.M. and 7:00 P.M. are the most dangerous for child pedestrians. Nearly 40% of child pedestrian fatalities occur in the early morning or late afternoon to early evening hours. Coincidentally, these are some of the hours that most children will be “trick or treating.”

Contact Detective William F. Bustos, Traffic Detectives Officer-In-Charge and a Spanish Media Coordinator, at 818-756-8381 or 818-374-1920, for additional information.
