Captain Jeffrey Bert was raised in Coos Bay, Oregon, and joined the Los Angeles Police Department in 1996. Prior to becoming an officer, Bert received his Bachelor of Arts at the University of Colorado at Boulder in English Literature, and his Master of Arts at King’s College, London, in Dramatic Literature. Bert moved from Oregon in 1996 to start his career with the LAPD.
Captain Bert has worked in a variety of field and administrative assignments and has served the Department in every geographic bureau. As a lieutenant in 2007, Captain Bert ran the Operations-Valley Bureau (OVB) Violent Crime Task Force, and later served as a Bureau Gang Coordinator for OVB, and the Van Nuys Gang Impact Team Officer in Charge. Bert left OVB in 2009 to become the Pacific Detective Division Commanding Officer, a position he held until promoting to Captain in November 2011. Captain Bert worked Southeast Patrol Division for nine months before promoting to Captain II at Valley Traffic Division. After five months at VTD, Bert was promoted to his current position as Northeast Area Commanding Officer.
As the Commanding Officer, Northeast Area, Captain Bert has emphasized graffiti abatement, gang enforcement, and community involvement as methods of improving the quality of life Northeast’s diverse neighborhoods and driving down crime.
Captain Bert lives with his wife, Stacy, and they reside in Van Nuys with their four daughters.
