Captain Jennifer Thomas was born in Taipei, Taiwan. She immigrated to the United States when she was 14 years old. She came from a family of law enforcement. Both her grandfather and uncle were policemen in Taiwan and her father-in-law is a retired detective with Montebello Police Department.
Jennifer was a police explorer in Singapore. She was appointed to the Los Angeles Police Department in January 1995, fulfilling her childhood dream of becoming a Los Angeles Police Officer. As an officer, her assignments included Central Patrol Division, Central and OCB CRASH, and Asian Crimes Investigation Section. In November 2002, she was promoted to sergeant where she was assigned to Southeast Patrol Division and later to Operations-South Bureau, Internal Affairs Division, Training Group and Incident Management & Training Bureau. In April 2009, Jennifer was promoted to lieutenant where she was assigned to Central Patrol Division, followed by a term as the adjutant to the Special Assistant for Constitutional Policing. Upon her promotion to Captain, she was assigned as the Commanding Officer of Northeast Patrol Division.
Jennifer graduated summa cum laude from Azusa Pacific University with a Bachelor of Science degree, and with distinction from California State University, Long Beach, earning a Master’s degree in Emergency Management Services.
She is married to Brian, who is also a Captain with the Los Angeles Police Department. They have a son who is on active duty with the Marine Corps and a daughter at University of California, Irvine.
