Two Arrests Made in Silver Lake-Echo Park Robberies

Los Angeles:  Two juveniles are now in custody related to the rash of street robberies committed over a single month period of time in the Silver Lake and Echo Park districts of Los Angeles.

On Saturday, February 7, 2009, Northeast Area Gang Officers arrested two juvenile gang members in connection with the series of street robberies occurring between December 30, 2008 through January 31, 2009.  Gang Officers served a search warrant at one of the juvenile's residence and items of evidence were recovered that may be related to the robberies.  Some of the items recovered included IPods, cellular phones, walkie-talkies, and several knives and handguns believed used during some of the crimes.

The suspects in the rash of robberies targeted loan males walking along the street.  Witnesses and victims described the suspects as male, Hispanics, ranging in age from fifteen to thirty-nine years of age.  The robberies occurred at various times, ranging between midnight and 3:30 a.m.

Because the subjects arrested are juveniles, their identity is not being released.

Detectives are continuing to pursue leads with additional arrests anticipated.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Northeast Area Gang Detectives at 213-847-4263.  After hours or on weekends, calls may be directed to a 24-hour, toll-free number at  1-877-LAPD-24-7 or by texting CRIMES (274637) and beginning the message with the letters LAPD.  Tipsters may also submit information on the LAPD website  www.lapdonline.org.  Tipsters may remain anonymous.
