Pacific Area Searches for Rape Suspect

On Sunday, October 18, 1998, a rape occurred in the early morning hours at a residence located in the 700 block of Broadway Avenue of Pacific Area.

The victim was asleep in the residence when the suspect entered the location through an unlocked window. He attacked the victim and sexually assaulted her.

The suspect is described as a male, White (dark skinned), dark hair (small braids mixed in with hair), dark eyes, 5’8"- 5’9", 190-200 lbs. (stocky build), early 30’s. The suspect had a mustache and beard and he possibly speaks with a "slight" accent. He has an unknown tattoo on one of his shoulders. He is dirty in appearance and smells of body odor. At the time of the assault he was wearing a T-shirt, blue jeans and brown sandals.

The suspect is known to frequent the Venice Beach area and possibly goes by the name of "Mario." He carries a dark colored backpack and a large portable radio. He has been seen wearing an orange knit cap.
