Murder Suspect Has Been Identified

LOS ANGELES POLICE DEPARTMENT
PRESS RELEASE
Tuesday, November 30, 1999

On Saturday, November 13, 1999, at approximately 11:30 A.M., David Martinez, 30 years of age and a resident of Los Angeles was shot and killed. The victim and his cousin were driving southbound in the 900 block of Blades Street when the suspect, Danny Castaneda, fired one shotgun round at both victims. Victim Martinez and his cousin were able to flee the location and drive to the area of Winter Street and Hicks Street. As a Los Angeles County Sheriff Deputy was conducting an unrelated investigation at 3306 Winter Street, he observed the victims inside their vehicle. The Deputy Sheriff requested the Los Angeles County Paramedics to respond to that location. Both victims sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Martinez died at scene and the other victim was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. Witnesses have identified Danny Castaneda as the suspect who shot the victims.

Danny Castaneda is currently on parole and should be considered armed and dangerous. Castaneda is described as a male, Hispanic, 21 years of age, 5'10" tall, 115 pounds, bald head and brown eyes.

Los Angeles Police Department's Hollenbeck Area Detectives L. Teague and R. Amador are handling the investigation. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Castaneda is asked to call 323-526-3115.

A photo of the suspect is available at the Hollenbeck Area Police Station.
