10 Year Suspects Set Fire to Stores in an Attempt to Steal Merchandise

LOS ANGELES POLICE DEPARTMENT
PRESS RELEASE
Wednesday, November 24, 1999

On Tuesday, November 23, 1999, at approximately 5:00 P.M., a group of six to eight young male juveniles entered the K-Mart, Ross for Less, and the Old Navy stores in the Fairfax Shopping Center, located at 6300 block of West 3rd Street, in Los Angeles. While some of the juveniles set fires inside each store, the other juveniles grabbed merchandise and ran from the stores.

Officers from Wilshire Division responded and were able to arrest two of the subjects at the scene.

The Los Angeles Fire Department responded and quickly contained the fires. There were no injuries. The estimated damages were approximately $15,000 to the Ross for Less store, and $5,000 each to the K-mart and Old Navy stores.

The two 10 year old subjects were booked for arson. The Los Angeles Fire Department Arson Detail is conducting the investigation.
