LAPD Media Day

LOS ANGELES POLICE DEPARTMENT
PRESS RELEASE
Tuesday, November 14, 2000

"LAPD Media Day"

Los Angeles - On Tuesday, November 21, 2000, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., the Los Angeles Police Department will make it's training facilities/curriculum available to the media. This Media Open House will be held at the Edward M. Davis Emergency Vehicle Operations Center (EVOC), 1200 Blucher Avenue, Granada Hills.

The training overview is intended to educate the community, through the media, on the high quality of training the LAPD curriculum provides to every recruit officer in their 1,064 hours of academy training. This training far exceeds the 640 hours of Basic Training required by the State of California, Police Officers Standards and Training (POST), and the average 900 hours of training offered by the 39 POST certified academies in the State.

Participating media persons will receive computer simulated and hands-on instructions/training in Vehicular Pursuit and Emergency Driving, Situation/Incident Assessment and Tactical Deployment, computer simulated Shoot-Don't Shoot scenarios in the Firearms Tactics Scenario Systems (FATS), and real-life scenarios in the Practical Combat Range.

Please direct all inquiries regarding this advisory to Media Relations Section at 213-485-3586.

This Media Advisory was prepared by Officer Eduardo Funes, Media Relations Section.
