"Homicide Investigation in Rampart Area"

Los Angeles - On Sunday, November 26, 2000 at approximately 2:50 a.m., Rampart patrol officers responded to 5th Street and Mariposa Avenue for a "Shots Fired" radio call. Upon arrival, the officers observed a victim of a shooting on the sidewalk. The responding paramedics pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

The preliminary investigation has revealed that witnesses in the area heard multiple gunshots and observed a van drive away from the location of the shooting.

The motive for this shooting has not been determined. The suspect, weapon and vehicle remain outstanding and the victim has not been identified at this time.
