"Southeast Area’s First Neighborhood Police Academy Graduation"

What:
First Southeast Area Neighborhood Police Academy Graduation

When:
Thursday, November 15, 2001
6:00 P.M.

Where:
Los Angeles Police Department Ahmanson Training Center
5651 West Manchester Avenue.

Los Angeles: The Neighborhood Police Academy Program is designed to strengthen relationships between the Department and the communities we serve.

Members of the first class of the Neighborhood Police Academy Program in Southeast Area, all residents of Jordan Downs Housing Development in Watts, have judiciously attended community police training each Thursday, for the last five weeks.

The training courses are taught by police officers from Southeast Community Police Station. The curriculum includes role playing, where the students play the role of police officers and apply different problem solving methods to handle various situations. The role-playing scenarios serve as a valuable tool to foster a better understanding of the role of the police in our society.

As part of the graduation ceremony, members of the graduating class will have the opportunity to, once again, play the role of police officers and test their judgment and reaction time at the Computer Simulator Firearms Training System.

This graduation will recognize the efforts of those community members who have shown the desire to be part of the solution to the challenges that face our communities.
