South Traffic Detectives Investigate a Fatal Accident that Leaves One Dead

"South Traffic Detectives Investigate a Fatal Accident that Leaves One Dead"

Los Angeles: On November 23, 2001, at approximately 12:15 am., a fatal auto vs. pedestrian traffic collision occurred on Vermont Avenue and Imperial Highway in the Southeast Area of Los Angeles.

The victim, who has yet to be identified, was struck by a 2001 Chevy Monte Carlo, which was being operated by a 32 year old resident of Los Angeles. Apparently the victim was attempting to cross Vermont Avenue, inside the marked crosswalk, when he was struck. However, the preliminary investigation revealed that the victim crossed the street against the red light.

South Traffic Division officers conducting the on-scene investigation found no evidence to show the driver of the vehicle was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Responding paramedics from the Los Angeles Fire Department transported the victim, who is described as male of undetermined ethnic extraction, 5 feet 10 inches tall, 170 pounds, with gray hair, in his early 50’s to Centinela Hospital where he died as the result of his injuries. Identification of the victim is pending an investigation at the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.

The follow-up investigation into this collision has been assigned to South Traffic Detectives.

This press release was prepared by Public Information Officer Eduardo Funes, Media Relations Section, 213-485 3586.
