Los Angeles: On Tuesday, November 27, 2001, at approximately 10:15 PM, 18 year-old Jason McCoy, was standing with a friend in front of the residence located on the 9600 block of south Hickory Street. Unknown Hispanic male suspects drove by in an unidentified car and the passenger suspect fired several rounds towards Jason McCoy and his friend. Jason McCoy was struck, ran several feet and then collapsed on a driveway nearby. McCoy was pronounced dead at the scene by responding Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics.

The suspect vehicle continued southbound on Hickory Street towards 97th Street. No further information is currently available regarding possible suspects.

The motive for the drive-by shooting appears to be gang-related. Neither McCoy nor his friend are gang members.

Anyone with information regarding this incident can call Southeast Operations Support Division Homicide Detectives at 213-485-6902.

This media advisory was prepared by Public Information Officer Guillermo Campos, Media Relations Section, 213-485-3586.
