"Gang-Related, Car To Car, Shooting Injures Twelve Year-Old Boy"

Los Angeles: On Friday, November 1, 2002, at approximately 4:00 p.m., Foothill Area patrol officers were directed to Kaiser Hospital in Panorama City. The officers were advised to meet the victim of a gunshot wound. Upon arrival at the hospital, officers were directed to two victims who told officers they had been shot while driving their vehicle in the vicinity of Osborne Street and Woodman Avenue. The 23 year-old driver of the vehicle, and resident of Panorama City, did not sustain any injuries. However, his twelve year-old brother, who was with him at the time of the shooting, sustained a single gunshot wound to the back of his head.

Officers interviewed both individuals who described the sequence of events. They heard a vehicle speed up next to them. They described the vehicle as late model, four-door compact, black in color. The vehicle slowed and pulled in behind them. The victims heard approximately four shots and the sound of breaking glass in their vehicle. The driver of the vehicle observed that his brother had been shot and immediately drove to the hospital. The driver of the vehicle claimed he did not know why they had been shot at, but did admit to having gang affiliations.

The twelve year-old minor was treated for a gunshot wound to the back of his head and was admitted to the pediatrics intensive care unit in stable condition.

This incident appears to be gang-related and the investigation is being handled by Foothill Detectives. The detectives are in the process of attempting to identify the suspects and are asking for assistance from the public. Anyone with information regarding this crime is asked to call 818-834-3115 or during off-hours, 818-756-8861.
