Two Men Arrested for Possession of Handguns

November 25, 2002

Los Angeles: On Sunday, November 24, 2002, at approximately 4:30 p.m., Foothill Area officers responded to a radio call regarding possible armed suspects at San Fernando High School.

Upon arrival, the officers were advised that the San Fernando Valley Youth Football organization was sponsoring a playoff game at the high school football stadium. During the event, a witness observed two adults with handguns in their waistbands and he notified the police. The officers observed the two suspects in the crowd. The officers noticed that one suspect appeared to hand an unknown object to a third suspect whom then disappeared into the crowd. The officers detained the two original suspects and discovered that both were wearing bulletproof vests and one was armed with a handgun.

Based on the observations of the witness earlier that both suspects were armed, the officers believed that one suspect had passed his gun to a third suspect. Both suspects identified themselves as bodyguards who were providing security protection for an undisclosed client. The suspect that was in possession of a firearm provided state permits for a security guard and to possess an exposed firearm. Neither suspect had the legal right to carry a concealed weapon or to possess handguns on school grounds. Both suspects were arrested for the charge of possessing handguns on school grounds. They were identified as Marcus Guy, age 28, a resident of Hawthorne, and Tremayne Jackson, age 28, a resident of Canoga Park. Neither Guy or Jackson is related to any of the youth who were playing in the contest.

Additionally, other witnesses observed several other male adults scale fences and drop handguns, picking them back up and fleeing as the officers arrived. This information prompted administrators of the youth football program to decide to discontinue the event in the best interest of the youth and adults present. There was no evidence of any gang violence or injuries to spectators.

If anyone has further information as to the identities of other armed individuals at the event, contact Foothill Area Detectives at 818-834-3115.
