LAPD Graduates Academy Class

What:
LAPD Graduation for 49 new officers

Special ceremony to award Bronze Star and Purple Heart to LAPD sergeant who served in Irag

When:
November 11, 2005
9 AM (graduation ceremony begins)

Where:
LAPD Police Academy (Elysian Park)
1880 N. Academy Drive, LA

Who:

  • Chief William J. Bratton
  • 49 graduates of the 04-05 Recruit Class
  • Also attending: Mayor Villaraigosa, members of the Police Commission, and LAPD command officers
  • Sergeant Martin Spann (receiving military honors from
    Maj. Gen. Peter Gravett, US Army (ret.)
  • Admiral David Janes, US Navy, chairman of the National Employer Support of Guard and Reserve

Why:
This was the class that walked footbeats in Hollywood in October.

Class stats: 39 men, 10 women and 1 lateral male officer. 3 African-Americans; 21 Hispanic; 23 White; 1 Filipino and 1 Pacific Islander.

At least one graduate is a child of a current LAPD officer: Michael Gannon, son of Captain Pat Gannon, commanding officer of 77th Street Area.

PIO at event will be Officer Grace Brady, who also speaks Spanish.
