Two People Shot in Car; One Man Dead

Los Angeles:  Hollenbeck Homicide Detectives are investigating the gang-related shooting death of 25-year-old Jose Magana and the attempted murder of 27-year-old Hipolito Adame.

On Monday, November 21, 2005, at about 8:10 p.m., the victims, both Hispanic, were driving eastbound on 1st Street, approaching Indiana Street, in a 2004 red Toyota Solara.  Mr. Magana was the front passenger and Mr. Adame was driving when they stopped for the red light at the intersection of 1st and Indiana.  A suspect(s) pulled next to the passenger side of the victim's vehicle in a black or dark colored SUV and fired several rounds from a handgun.  Both victims were struck multiple times in the upper torso.  The suspects then fled the location eastbound 1st Street.  Mr. Adame drove to the 3400 block of Folsom Street where he requested assistance from the residents in the immediate area.

There is no further description of the suspect(s) at this time.

A Los Angeles County Fire Rescue Ambulance responded to the 3400 block of Folsom Street and provided emergency medical treatment to the victims.  Mr. Magana did not respond to the treatment and died at the scene.  Mr. Adame was transported to USC Medical Center where he was treated for a gunshot wound to the right shoulder and back of his head and is listed in stable condition.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Hollenbeck Homicide Detectives Ricard or Preciado at 323-526-3680.  On weekends and during off-hours, please call Hollenbeck Area Watch Commander at 213-485-2942 or the 24-hour toll free number at the Detective Information Desk at 1-877-LAWFULL (1-877-529-3855).  Callers may remain anonymous.
