LAPD Investigates Cause of Fetus Death NR09555ah

Los Angeles: Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) detectives have arrested a man in connection with the death of a fetus.

37-year-old Joshua Woodard was arrested on October 25, 2009.  Investigators believed that Woodard was involved in a romantic relationship with the pregnant mother. The mother's intention was to carry to term.  However, the fetus was suspiciously aborted.  A preliminary investigation established probable cause to believe that the suspect was directly responsible for the termination.

Woodard was booked for murder.  He was released pending further follow-up investigation.  The results of tests completed on the evidence related to the case are pending.

Juvenile Division was assigned investigative responsibility for the case.  Investigators are working with the District Attorney's Office to prepare a case for filing.  The investigation is ongoing.  No additional information will be provided.

Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact LAPD's Juvenile Division detectives at 818-374-5415.  After-hours and on weekends, calls may be directed to a 24-hour, toll-free number at1-877-LAPD-24-7 (527-3247).  Callers may also text "Crimes" with a cell phone or log on to www.lapdonline.org and click on Web tips.  When using a cell phone, all messages should begin with "LAPD."  Tipsters may remain anonymous.
