Elderly Woman Dies After Being Hit By a Backing Car NR10554cj

Los Angeles:  Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) Valley Traffic Division detectives are asking for the public’s help in providing additional information about an elderly woman who was killed in a traffic accident in Winnetka.  
 
On November 28, 2010, at around 12:07 p.m., LAPD Valley Traffic officers responded to a traffic accident on Buttonwillow Drive east of Oakdale Avenue.  When officers arrived, they saw a woman lying on the ground near a car. The woman was unresponsive and it appeared the woman was hit by the car.  The officers were met by a 23-year-old man who told them that he had called the 911.  The man was identified as the driver of the car.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene by Los Angeles City Fire Department personnel.  She was identified as 80-year-old Kien Nguyen, a Winnetka resident.   

The detective’s investigation revealed that the driver was backing his silver Toyota RAV4 out of a residential driveway when he struck the woman as she was walking westbound on Buttonwillow Drive on the sidewalk.  When the driver realized what happened, he called 911.  The investigation is ongoing.
