“Man with a Gun,” Points it at Police NR11518kr

The Newton Division officer indicated in the officer-involved shooting below has been identified as Police Officer Jorge Gonzalez. He has been with the Department for nine years
and three months.
Los Angeles: Officers responding to a radio call of an “Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Shots Fired,” encountered the individual who pointed a gun at them, resulting in an officer involved shooting.
On October 31, 2011, at about 8 p.m., Newton Area officers were called to Central Avenue and 22nd Street to investigate calls of shots fired in the area. Once at scene witnesses pointed to the direction of where the suspect was. When they got near Hooper Avenue and Adams Boulevard the suspect pointed the gun in the officer’s direction and an officer involved shooting occurred. The suspect, a male Hispanic juvenile, was hit by gunfire and taken into custody.
He was transported to a local hospital in critical but stable condition. He was later booked for an unrelated narcotics warrant and is being held without bail.
The LAPD Force Investigation Division responded to the incident and will conduct a thorough investigation of the officer-involved shooting and all related crimes.
The investigation will ultimately be reviewed by the Chief of Police, the Office of the Inspector General and Board of Police Commissioners for compliance with the Department’s use-of-force policy which states that an officer’s use-of-force actions must be objectively reasonable.
