Chief Charlie Beck responds to Los Angeles County Coroner’s autopsy findings on TSA Officer Gerardo Hernandez NR13500as

November 21, 2013

Los Angeles: The Los Angeles County Coroner today released an initial statement regarding the autopsy conducted on slain Los Angeles International Airport TSA Officer Gerardo Hernandez.  The statement indicated that Officer Hernandez died within two to five minutes after being shot.

“Some of the reporting on this incident was highly irresponsible,” said LAPD Chief Charlie Beck.  “All the facts indicate that any action taken by responding officers or medical personnel would not have saved Officer Hernandez’ life.  What concerns me most about this is that it brought needless trauma to the grieving family members of Officer Hernandez.  It is unconscionable to inflict unnecessary additional suffering to a family that lost a husband, a father, and a loved one in this tragic incident,” Chief Beck concluded.
