16 Year Old Female Dies in Drive-By

LOS ANGELES POLICE DEPARTMENT
PRESS RELEASE
Tuesday, October 12, 1999

On Friday night, October 8, 1999, at approximately 10:25 p.m., the victim, a female Black, 16 years of age, was standing in front of the 5400 block of South Hoover with a group of other individuals. Unknown suspects drove by in a 1988 blue mini van. The right front passenger fired numerous rounds in the direction of the group of individuals that were standing alongside of the victim. The victim sustained a single gunshot wound to her upper torso and was transported to a local hospital. She failed to respond to medical treatment and succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. Victim's name not release pending notification next of kin.

Motive for this incident has not been established. However, the shooting appears to be gang-related.

Suspects and weapon remain outstanding.

Detectives R. Sato and H. Baeza, 77th Street Homicide Detectives, are conducting the investigation. Anyone with information concerning this incident is requested to call 77th Street Homicide Detectives at 213-485-1659 or 77th Street Watch Commander at 213-485-2389.
