LOS ANGELES POLICE DEPARTMENT
PRESS RELEASE
Sunday, October 31, 1999

Devonshire Homicide

On 10-30-99, at 6:15 P.M., victim Daniel Candelaria, a 20 year-old resident of San Fernando, was walking in the area of Parthenia Street and Columbus Avenue, in North Hills. A tan compact vehicle with several male occupants pulled near the curb. One of the occupants inquired whether the victim belonged to a gang. The victim stated he did not. One of the occupants of the suspect vehicle produced a firearm and fired several rounds, striking the victim multiple times in the upper body. The victim collapsed as the suspect vehicle fled.

The victim was transported to Holy Cross Hospital, and died as a result of the gunshot wounds. The attack appears to be gang motivated. There are no suspects in custody. The investigation is being handled by the Devonshire Homicide Unit. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Detectives at the following numbers:

(818) 756-8291, or (818) 756-8285 during off hours.
