Detectives Investigate Hate Crimes

Monday, October 25, 1999

On September 24, 1999, at approximately 3:00 A.M., anti-Croatian and pro-Serbian graffiti was discovered on a wall at Ante's restaurant, located in the 700 block of S. Palos Verdes in San Pedro.

At 8:00 A.M. similar graffiti was discovered at the Croatian American Club located in the 600 block of W. 9th Street.

At 9:00 A.M. it was reported that someone had vandalized the Dalmatian American Club by throwing eggs at the building, located in the 1600 block of S. Palos Verdes.

The three vandalisms are possibly related to the ethnic conflict between Serbia and Croatia. The incidents have been classified as Hate crimes. The suspects have not been identified. Harbor detectives are handling the investigation.
