Victim in Critical Condition After Being Struck By Hit and Run Driver

LOS ANGELES POLICE DEPARTMENT
PRESS RELEASE
Thursday, October 14, 1999

On Wednesday, October 13, 1999, at about 7:15 pm, Jose Catalino Luna of Van Nuys was struck by a hit and run vehicle while he was crossing Sylvan Street at Hazeltine Avenue in an unmarked crosswalk. The hit and run vehicle was northbound on Hazeltine Avenue turning right onto Sylvan Street.

Luna was transported to Northridge Hospital where he underwent surgery for the injuries he sustained and he remains in critical condition.

The vehicle is described as a possible Ford or Dodge white carpool type van. Witnesses at the scene stated that the driver hesitated for a few seconds before fleeing the scene of the accident.

Valley Traffic Division is conducting the investigation. Anyone with any information is requested to contact Investigator Gillett, Valley Traffic Detectives at 818-756-8391.
