Gang Shooting Leaves Two Dead

LOS ANGELES POLICE DEPARTMENT
PRESS RELEASE
Friday, October 13, 2000

"Gang Shooting Leaves Two Dead"

Los Angeles - On Friday, October 13, 2000, at approximately 1:00 a.m., victim Donte Lamont Briggs, male Black, 22 years old, was standing on the northwest corner of 63rd Street and Victoria Avenue, when he was approached by an unidentified male Black suspect. During a brief conversation, the suspect armed himself with an unknown type weapon and shot Briggs multiple times. The suspect turned to flee and encountered a second victim, a male Black, 16 years of age, who had walked up behind him. The suspect shot the second victim for no apparent reason and without provocation. The suspect then entered an awaiting vehicle, described only as a possible red Pontiac Firebird, driven by a second unidentified suspect and fled eastbound from the location.

Both victims sustained multiple gunshot wounds to their upper torso. They were treated at scene by Los Angeles Fire Department Emergency personnel and transported to a local hospital. Both victims failed to respond to treatment and succumbed to their injuries.

The motive for this incident appears to be gang related. The suspect and weapon remain outstanding.

77th Street Homicide Detectives Charles Tizano and Janell Kessner are conducting the investigation. Anyone with information concerning this incident is urged to call 77th Street Homicide Detectives, at 213-485-1659 or the 77th Street Watch Commander, at 213-485-2389.

This press release was prepared by Public Information Officer Trevion Stokes, Media Relations Section.
