"36 Year Old Victim Dies from Gunshot Wound"

Mid City: The Los Angeles Police Department, Wilshire Operations Support Division Homicide Detectives are investigating a homicide that occurred on Monday, October 23, 2000 at approximately 11:20 p.m. The victim was driving his 2001 black pick-up truck eastbound on Pickford Street at Highland Avenue when he was shot in the head area. The vehicle continued east and collided with a large bush and subsequently came to rest.

The Los Angeles Fire Department Paramedics responded to the location and treated the victim. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injury. The victim was identified as Buford Bates, a male Black, 36 years of age and a local resident. The suspect(s) has not been identified.

The motive for the incident has not been determined.
