Victim Found Dead in Elevator Shaft

LOS ANGELES POLICE DEPARTMENT
PRESS RELEASE
Wednesday, October 25, 2000

"Victim Found Dead in Elevator Shaft"

Century City - On Wednesday, October 25, 2000 at 10:30 a.m., West Los Angeles Detectives responded to 11840 Century Park East to conduct a death investigation. The victim had fallen nine floors down an elevator shaft.

The preliminary investigation revealed that an employee of a courier service had become stuck in an elevator between the ninth and tenth floors. The victim made contact with the building security personnel, who in turn called for an elevator maintenance worker. The victim was advised to wait; help was on the way.

Apparently, the victim decided not to wait and pried the elevator doors open. He attempted to crawl out of the elevator. The victim fell to his death, nine floors, when he unsuccessfully exited the elevator.

No foul play is suspected and the death is listed as an accidental. The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

For further information contact Media Relations Section. This press release was prepared by Public Information Officer Jason Lee 213-485-3586.
