Crime Prevention Fair & Open House in Northeast Area

"Crime Prevention Fair & Open House in Northeast Area"

Los Angeles: Northeast Area Community Police Station will host its annual Open House on Saturday, October 20, 2001, between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. in the station parking lot at 3353 San Fernando Road. This year's theme is "Crime Prevention" and will include a crime prevention fair.

Northeast area consists of 22 diverse communities with approximately 250,000 residents. This event will showcase the LAPD with displays from SWAT, DARE, Narcotics, Air Support, Mounted Unit, K-9 Unit and much more. Chief Bernard C. Parks will be present as well as the Senior Lead Officers who are assigned to the various areas in the community. Security professionals will be present to provide crime prevention tips. Public Health Service will provide free Health screening. Guided tours of the station will be offered and workshops will be conducted with topics regarding the Volunteer Surveillance Team, Gang Suppression and Juvenile "Safe House" programs.

A live DJ will be on hand to provide music for enjoyment as well as a moon bounce for the kids, along with free balloons. Halloween safety tips will be given to youngsters and parents to ensure a safe and enjoyable Halloween. The Los Angeles Dodgers will display a baseball memorabilia trailer with a pitching machine and fun games for all. The Los Angeles Historical Society will present its Mobile Police Museum for all to view. Former Dodger Pitcher Bobby Castillo will be on hand to sign autographs. He pitched during the 1981 Championship season. A barbecue fundraiser will be provided by our local area business police support group, BLEND (Business for Law Enforcement in Northeast Division), and the Community Police Advisory Board (C-PAB). They will be offering Carne Asada tacos, rice, bean, tortillas, salsa, drinks, popcorn, nachos and snow cones for a nominal amount throughout the day.

This event is designed to heighten crime prevention awareness, generate participation in local anti-crime efforts and to strengthen neighborhood-police community partnerships.

For further questions, please contact Sergeant Sandy Rosenberg, officer-in-charge, Northeast Area Community Relations Office at 213-485-2548.
