Van Nuys: On Thursday, October 11, 2001, at approximately 6:30 p.m., Meyer Muscatel, a male Caucasian, 58 years old, told his daughter he was going to meet some people at a business meeting. The location of the meeting and the identity of the persons he was meeting are unknown. Mr. Muscatel has not been seen since he left for the meeting. On October 12, 2001, the family of Mr. Muscatel called the police and a Missing Persons Report was taken by Van Nuys Area Community Police Station. On October 14, 2001, at approximately 10:30 am, Van Nuys Division officers located Mr. Muscatel’s empty vehicle, in a parking lot to the rear of a Gelson’s Market which is located at Millbank Street and Sylmar Avenue in Sherman Oaks. The family reports that Mr. Muscatel’s disappearance is completely out of character.

On Thursday, October 18, 2001, at approximately 3:00 pm, Van Nuys Area Homicide Detectives and the family of missing person Meyer Muscatel will hold a press conference in front of the Van Nuys Area Community Police Station. The public’s assistance is needed to locate Mr. Muscatel and his family will announce today that they are offering a FIFTY FOUR THOUSAND DOLLAR ($54,000.00) reward for anyone with information leading to the whereabouts of Mr. Muscatel. The family will also be available to answer questions from the media regarding Mr. Muscatel and the circumstances of his disappearance.

This investigation is being conducted by Van Nuys Area Community Police Station. Anyone with information concerning this incident is asked to call Detective Sommers at 818-756-8343 or the Department Command Post at 213-485-2504 during off-hours.
