Missing Person Found Dead
Los Angeles: Vincent Frank Meli was last seen on
September 18, 2002, when he left his residence on the 10900 block of
Wellworth Avenue. Meli is described as a 23 year-old male Caucasian with
dark brown hair, brown eyes, 6’ 2", and weighs approximately 190
pounds. Meli physical condition is described as good, however his family
indicates that he may be suffering from depression due to recent job loss.
Meli’s personal property and green 2000 Chevrolet Blazer
were recovered by Hermosa Beach Police Department on September 10, 2002. A
male suspect was in possession of Meli’s property and vehicle was
arrested. The suspect stated he found the property and vehicle unattended at
Dockweiler State Beach. The suspect denied any knowledge or involvement in
the disappearance of Meli.
****UPDATE****
Los Angeles County Lifeguards discovered the body of the
Missing Person, Vincent Frank Meli, in the ocean off El Segundo on October
9, 2002, at approximately 9:00 a.m., during a routine training exercise. The
body was recovered and transported to the Harbor Patrol Station by Los
Angeles County Fire and Sheriff Department personnel.
The body was decomposed due to marine life and couldn’t be
identified at the time of the recovery. On October 11, 2002, the Los Angeles
County Coroners’ Office positively identified the body through dental
records.
The cause of death is being investigated by the El Segundo
Police Department and the Los Angeles County Coroners’ Office.
