Crime Tips for Commuters

Los Angeles: The Los Angeles Police Department is aware of the hardship that is being placed on the commuting public as a result of the labor action taken the Mass Transit Authority. We, as well as those being affected, wish this situation a speedy conclusion. As in many situations, there are those, who would use this opportunity to take advantage of the unsuspecting.

Some community members are using their private vehicles to provide transportation and charging for the service. Understanding the need for transportation, the following tips are being offered, in an attempt to protect commuters from becoming crime victims.

  • Be aware of your surroundings.
  • Do not enter a vehicle alone if you feel uneasy about the driver.
  • Wait for additional riders if necessary.
  • Keep a cell phone handy.
  • Do not accept rides in dimly lit areas.

The Los Angeles Police Department hopes this information will assist in making the best of a difficult time.

This press release was prepared by Public Information Officer Don Cox, Media Relations Section, 213-485-3586.
