Dispute Among In-Laws Results in Fatal Shooting

Los Angeles: On Sunday, October 26, 2003, at about 1:50 a.m., Northeast officers responded to a radio call of " Shots Fired" in the 1200 block N. Edgemont Street. When the officers arrived, they were directed by witnesses to the victim, 35 year-old Servando Ruiz who lay dead on the sidewalk. Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded and pronounced Ruiz dead as a result of his wounds.

The investigation revealed that Ruiz became involved in a verbal dispute with his bother-in-law regarding his infidelity. The suspect, Oscar Lemus armed himself with a handgun and shot Ruiz.

This is an on-going investigation.
