DUI Driver Arrested After Killing One and Injuring Another

"DUI Driver Arrested After Killing One and Injuring Another"

Los Angeles: On October 23, 2004, at about 4:05 a.m., a fatal traffic collision occurred in the intersection of Exposition Boulevard and Western Avenue. 23 year-old Ronald Uy was driving a 1999 BMW M3 westbound on Exposition Boulevard when he failed to stop for the red traffic signal. Uy was then involved in a broadside collision with a 1994 Toyota Camry that was being driven by a male Black 20-25 years of age. The impact between the two cars caused the Toyota to rotate and strike a pedestrian. The pedestrian, a male Black 30-40 years of age, was walking northbound on Western Avenue in the marked crosswalk.

Los Angeles Fire Department Paramedics responded and transported the driver from the Toyota and the pedestrian to local hospitals. The driver of the Toyota died from his injuries about one hour after the collision. The name of the driver is being withheld pending notification to his family. The pedestrian received blunt force injuries to his head and torso and is in critical condition and on life support. The pedestrian has not been identified and is listed as John Doe.

The driver from the BMW, Uy, was arrested for Gross Vehicular Manslaughter while Intoxicated and was booked at the 77th Area Jail. His bail was set at $100,000.

Anyone with information regarding this case is requested to call Detective Greg Davis, South Traffic Division, at 323-290-6063. On weekends and during off-hours, call the 24-hour toll free number at the Detective Information Desk, at 1-877-LAWFULL (1-877-529-3855).
