Murder Suspect Arrested

Los Angeles: On Sunday, October 9, 2005, at about 2:00 a.m., LAPD officers responded to a radio call of shots being fired at the scene of a large party in the 15900 block of Osborne Street in North Hills.

Upon the arrival of officers and paramedics, an apparent gunshot victim was observed lying in the intersection of Gloria Avenue and Osborne Street.  The victim later identified as Mark Aguirre a 21-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.  Officers immediately secured the crime scene and issued a preliminary broadcast regarding the description of a possible suspect's car seen leaving the location of the shooting.

Within minutes a patrol unit saw a similar car traveling on Nordhoff Street, approaching the San Diego Freeway.  A brief following took place and the suspect was detained without incident a few miles from the shooting location.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a large party spilled onto the street from a home on Osborne Street and several fistfights erupted.  A lone gunman produced a handgun and shot the victim a number of times.

The suspect was arrested for  187 PC Murder and remains in custody at Van Nuys Jail.  The suspect has been identified as Oscar Arenales, a nineteen year-old resident of Van Nuys.
