Halloween Traffic Safety Tips

What:
News conference to inform parents, children and the public of safety measures during trick or treating on Halloween.

When:
October 31, 2006
8:00 a.m.

Where:
Van Gogh Elementary School
17160 Van Gogh Street
Granada Hills, CA 91344

Who:
Commander Val Paniccia, Operations-Valley Bureau
Captain Ronald Marbery, Commanding Officer, Valley Traffic Division
Captain Jerry Szymanski, Patrol Commanding Officer, Mission Division
Chief Larry Manion, Los Angeles School Police

Why:
Every year on Halloween, the streets are filled with children dressed in different costumes. With darkness upon us as early as 5:30 in the evening and children out trick or treating as late as 10:00 p.m., it is crucial to remind motorist to be mindful of the children.

The Los Angeles Police Department and Los Angeles School Police will educate the public on safety measures. The children will receive a reflective trick or treat bag imprinted with Halloween traffic safety messages.

Detective William Bustos will be available for the Spanish media. For more information, please contact Officer Norman Kellems at 818-902-0336.
