Halloween Partygoers Shot NR11511bb

Los Angeles:  The LAPD Criminal Gang Homicide Division detectives are asking for the public’s help in providing any information about the shooting and murder of a man in South Los Angeles.

On Saturday October 29, at around 11:55 p.m., 18-year-old Richard Caceres and his friend were walking in an easterly direction on the sidewalk in front of a residence located in the 1700 block of West 50th Street, on their way to a Halloween party.  While walking on 50th Street, a blue van pulled up to Caceres and his friend, one suspect exited the passenger side door and asked if they were from a gang.  After Caceres and his friend replied “No”, the suspect began shooting, striking both men.

Los Angeles City Fire Department Rescue Ambulance responded to the scene and transported Caceres and his friend to a local hospital.  On Monday, October 31, 2011 Caceres died as a result of his injuries, the other Victim, only described as a 19-year-old male Hispanic is in stable condition, expected to survive his injuries.

The two suspects; shooter and driver of the van, are described as male Hispanics, 18-22 years of age. The detectives believe the motive for this shooting to be gang related.

Anyone with information is urged to call Criminal gang Homicide division detectives Young Mun or Refugio Garza at 213-485-1383.  During non-business hours or on weekends, calls should be directed to 1-877-LAPD-24-7 (1-877-527-3247). Anyone wishing to remain anonymous should call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (1-800-222-8477).  Tipsters may also contact Crime Stoppers by texting to phone number 274637 (C-R-I-M-E-S on most keypads) with a cell phone.  All text messages should begin with the letters “LAPD.” Tipsters may also go to LAPDOnline.org, click on "webtips" and follow the prompts.
