To announce a $50,000 reward for information that will lead to the arrest and conviction of the hit-and-run driver who killed 84-year-old Asghar Abbassi.

On Monday, August 26, 2013, around 6 a.m., Mr. Asghar Abbassi, was using his walker to cross from the southwest to the southeast corners of White Oak Avenue and Valerio Street in the city of Van Nuys.  Mr. Abbassi was walking within a marked crosswalk when he was struck by a 2003 to 2005 black, Nissan, 350Z, leaving him fatally injured at the scene.  After the impact, the hit and run driver fled without stopping to render aid or to identify himself/herself to authorities.

Detectives have exhausted all leads and are hopeful that a monetary reward will serve as an incentive for additional information to develop.  Detectives will be on-hand to speak about the reward and provide updates on the investigation.

•    Visuals will include photographs of Mr. Abbassi.
