WHY:
Venice Beach is a desired destination for travelers from all over the world, attracting thousands of visitors. The Office of Operations has selected Pacific Division as the location of the Reserve Task Force.
The task force of over 50 Reserve Officers will patrol Venice Beach as the LAPD strives to provide a safe and secure environment for residents and tourists alike. While quality of life issues and public safety around the Venice Beach Area will be the primary mission, crime suppression and vending enforcement issues will also be addressed.
For the past 60 years, the LAPD has encouraged Los Angeles residents to take an active role in protecting their community by volunteering for the Police Reserve Corps. Today, over 650 citizens are active Reserve Officers. These doctors, artists, pilots, business owners and industrial workers are effective spokespeople in their neighborhoods, providing valuable insight into the community for law enforcement. It is truly “Community Policing,” exemplified by the motto of the program: “To be a Reserve is to be twice a citizen.” What makes the LAPD program even more remarkable is that the standards to become a reserve police officer matches those required of full-time police officers.
