Captain Raymond L. Maltez was born in South Los Angeles, California in 1959.  He was educated locally and graduated from Saint Bernard High School in Westchester, California.  Captain Maltez graduated from the University of La Verne with honors, Cum Laude and holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Public Administration.  In addition, he has successfully completed the West Point Leadership Program, the Sherman Block Leadership Institute, the Command Officer Program, the POST Management Seminar and the Executive Management Program.  Captain Maltez is also a proud three-time recipient of the Department’s Police Meritorious Unit Citation.

Captain Maltez entered the Los Angeles Police Academy in May 1981.  His assignments as a police officer included Central Area Patrol Division, Juvenile Narcotics Division, Rampart Area Patrol Division, Operations South Bureau CRASH, the Narcotic Task Force, West Los Angeles Area Patrol Division and West Los Angeles Area Vice, Personnel Division and 77th Area Patrol Division.

Captain Maltez was promoted to Sergeant in 1990.  As a sergeant, his assignments were in Rampart Area Patrol Division, 77th Area Patrol Division, Southeast Area Vice, Personnel Division, Internal Affairs Division, and Behavioral Science Services.

Captain Maltez was promoted to Lieutenant in 2005.  As a lieutenant, his assignments have included Harbor Area Patrol Division, Jail Division and Personnel Division.

In March 2009, Captain Maltez was promoted to Captain and assigned his first command at Rampart Area Patrol Division.
