CRIME REPORT
Crime Report
There has been a total of thirty-seven part one crimes reported between August 23, 2009 and September 19, 2009. The area of Rosewood to Beverly and Normandie to Vermont has seen a large increase in cars being stolen. The most popular car that is being stolen in this area is early model Hondas and Toyota. The most inexpensive method for preventing this from happening is the use of a steering wheel locking device. They can be purchased at most auto repair stores. We have also seen an increase in robberies along the areas of Santa Monica Boulevard, between Vermont and Normandie.
It is important to remember that criminals often prey on those who are unaware of their surroundings or pre-occupied with something else. Be aware at all times and pay particular attention as you walk or drive down streets. Lock all residential doors and windows when you are away. Never leave valuables in your car or at least in plain sight when you park your car. It is worth noting that most of the crimes are occurring are between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 3:00 a.m. That is not an opinion, it is fact.

Property crimes have and still continue to be the most reported crime in 2A12’s basic car. So don’t leave anything of value (e.g.: Ipod, GPS, computers, money or packages) visible inside your vehicle. If you don’t currently have an ant-theft device on your vehicle, I recommend that you have one installed on your vehicle (e.g. car alarm, “The Club” or even “LoJack”).
“The Silverlake Bridge”, (Silverlake Bl between Ellett Pl and Reservoir) has been a habitual citizen complaint for over three years. Do to the numerous complaints that I have received over the years, I have decided to make it a project. I have reached out to various resources in an effort to alleviate these complaints for good. I started the project in July and it continues to be a work in progress. On October 7th 2009 at 8am and with the assistance of people from Councilman Tom LaBonge and Eric Gracetti Office’s we will be conducting a clean-up at the site. If anyone would like to come join us with the clean-up efforts, please feel free to come on down.
A good graffiti removal resource you can utilize via e-mail is http://anti-graffiti.lacity.org and it usually takes 48-72 hrs to address your graffiti removal request.
Remember LAPD is hiring and if you or anyone you know might be a qualified candidate call 866-444-5273 or log onto www.joinlapd.com Take care, Officer Stewart

During the month of October there was very little gang activity, or violent crimes in Echo Park, and Angelino Hgts, there were however some gang related situations at the Witmer Manor located at 1501 Miramar St. Several renters involved in the gang activity were arrested and several more were brought up for eviction by management.
The illegal swap meet being held at Echo Park Lake on Sunday’s has become an issue and I along with General Services PD, Park & Rec, Dept of Sanitation and CD13 will be addressing this issue through arrest and education of the vendors.
TRAFFIC CONCERNS:
There are two main traffic concerns in A39’s area .The first is the T-Intersection located at Douglas Street and Cortez Street. This intersection is located to the rear of Betty Placencia Middle School and has been the location of several close calls between vehicles failing to stop at the stop sign and young pedestrians not looking before crossing the street.
The second location is at Laguna Av and Echo Park Av. The crosswalk at this location is used by many pedestrians. Southbound vehicle traffic is traveling at high rates of speed making it unsafe for pedestrians in the crosswalk.
If you have any traffic concerns near your residence please call me at 213-7930775 and let me know what your concerns are.

Email 26603@lapd.lacity.org
The boundaries for Basic Car 2A69 are 3rd St south to James M Woods and Union Ave East to the 110 freeway.
Crime Trends:
Basic Car 2A69 has seen an increase in burglaries during the past month. Four of the reported burglaries involved residential apartments and one of the reported burglaries involved a commercial building which is under construction.
Each of the reported residents stated that they had locked and secured their apartments prior to leaving for work in the morning. When the resident returned home, they noticed pry marks on the front door knob and the door was unlocked.
A possible suspect was seen at one of the locations. The suspect is described below:
Male Hispanic, grey hair, Bro eyes 600 180 lbs 55-60 years, light mustache and a birthmark on left cheek. The suspect was possibly seen leaving the location in a blue Toyota Corolla.
Residents are asked to call 911 should they see anyone in their buildings matching the suspect description. Also I would like to advise residents that it is very important that residents advise the manager of their properties whenever they see people wandering in their properties that they do not know. As a general rule of thumb, residential burglaries occur during day time hours when people are away at work, or it is obvious that they are away on vacation. Commercial burglaries often occur at night or the weekend when offices are empty. If you see unknown people in your buildings attempting to “check” doors to verify if they’re locked, advise your manager immediately. If you see what appears to be someone using a tool around a door knob, don’t assume it’s a handy man, call 911. You may be preventing a burglary in progress.
SCAMS:
The holidays are approaching. Unfortunately at this time of year, we need to remember that SCAMS are increased.
One SCAM that increases during the holidays is requests for donations to charities. If you receive a telephonic request or someone comes to your door for donations, I ask that you be very careful. Prior to making a donation, verify that the individual is a representative for a registered non-profit. They should have proof that they represent the non-profit with them. If you have any doubts, do not donate. Organizations such as Salvation Army, Goodwill, United Way are just a few of the outstanding non-profits which benefit the community.
As a reminder, LAPD does not do telephone solicitations to raise money. There isn’t a police man’s Ball or other Christmas event involving children where we call and ask for donations. If you receive any telephonic requests, please call your Senior Lead Officer and advise them. If you receive anything through the US Mail service, please bring it into Rampart Station for officers to review.

If there is not currently a neighborhood watch group in your area but you would like to start one, I can be of assistance in coordinating that effort.
KNOWING THE COMMUNITY AND DECREASING CRIME:
It is important to know your neighbors and other residents within your community. This interaction helps residents identify who might or might not belong in the area as well as their intentions. When community members get to know their neighbors they tend to look out for one another including each other’s property. This extra pair eyes are what will assist us in decreasing property crimes. Be a good neighbor. If you see something that doesn’t look right, it probably isn’t. Call the police and let us determine through investigation if a crime occurred. Your neighbor will thank you and be more apt to repay the favor.
