Gang Related Shooting Kills Another

Los Angeles: Rampart Homicide Detectives are investigating the shooting death of a 28 year-old male Hispanic.
On March 7, 2003 at approximately 9:08 p.m., Rampart Area patrol officers responded to an "Ambulance Shooting" radio call in the 400 block of South Mariposa Avenue. Upon arrival, the officers observed the victim down on the sidewalk, suffering from gunshot wounds to his upper torso. Los Angeles Fire Department Paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the victim dead.
The preliminary investigation revealed three male Hispanics confronted the victim and shot him. The victim sustained fatal gunshot wounds to his body and fell to the ground. The suspects ran southbound from the location towards 5th Street.
The suspects are described as three male Hispanics, 25 to 30 years of age with shaved heads. This is believed to be gang related. Responding officers recovered an assault rifle near the location of the shooting.
The identity of the victim will not be revealed until after his relatives have been notified.
