Los Angeles – On Saturday, March 3, 2001, at approximately 11:45 p.m., Rampart Area patrol officers responded to an Ambulance/Assault with a Deadly Weapon/Shots Fired call on the 800 block of North Hoover Street. Upon their arrival, the officers observed a 16 year-old male Hispanic down on the ground, the apparent victim a shooting. The juvenile sustained a gunshot wound to his upper torso. The officers summoned paramedics who responded and transported the juvenile to a local hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, the juvenile succumbed to his wound on March 4, 2001, at approximately 4:30 a.m.
Witnesses state the juvenile was on a pay phone, when a white pick-up truck (no further description) traveling northbound on Hoover Street stopped next to him. The male Hispanic passenger in the truck asked the juvenile "Where are you from?" The juvenile denied belonging to or affiliation with any gang. Nonetheless, the passenger suspect fired numerous rounds from an unknown type handgun at the juvenile striking him once in the upper chest. The driver and passenger suspects then fled in the white pick-up truck northbound on Hoover Street.
The suspects are described only as two male Hispanics.
The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of his next of kin.
