Officer Accidently Fires a Weapon
Los Angeles: An officer mishandled a shotgun and accidently fired a round.
On September 3, 2008 at 5:30 p.m., Rampart Area Officers responded to the 400 block of South Whitmer Avenue for a perimeter search of a murder suspect. As a safety precaution, Officer Michael Williams removed a shotgun from his patrol vehicle and deployed the weapon, when he mishandled the shotgun and accidently fired a round into the air.
There were no injuries and no property damage.
Officer Williams has been with the Department for 20 years.
Rampart Division will be handling the investigation.
