The Scientific Investigation Division is made up of three branches: the Criminalistics Laboratory, the Technical Laboratory, and the Los Angeles Regional Crime Laboratory.
Together, these branches provide a full-range of forensic services, including:
Gathering, preserving and evaluating evidence seized pursuant to criminal investigations
Determining the presence of alcohol and the identification of controlled substances
Arranging for the destruction of hazardous chemicals and controlled substances
Performing polygraph exams of suspects, victims, Department employees and applicants
inside the lapd
